Ports and Hardware Overview of the macOS Server
?? Let's first talk about the hardware of the machine and let's find out what ports would work in our advantage.
?? Hablemos primero del hardware de la máquina y descubramos cuales puertos pueden resultar ventajosos.
Gigabit Ethernet 10/100/1000
?? Besides the power supply, the MOST IMPORTANT PORT in the Mac Mini. Period. You might be temped to think that Wi-Fi would be appropriate for connecting a server to a network, but no. Seriously.
?? Sin considerar la fuente de energía, el PUERTO MÁS IMPORTANTE de la Mac Mini. Tal vez te sientas tentado a pensar que Wi-Fi podría ser apropiado para conectar un servidor a una red, pero no. En serio.
FireWire 800
?? Nowadays, it obsolete and it has been replaced by the Thunderbolt standard. Even though, it is speedier than the USB 2.0 in this computer and it will become handy.
?? Hoy en día, está obsoleto y ha sido reemplazado por el estándar Thunderbolt. Aún así, es más veloz que el USB 2.0 presente en esta computadora y resultará útil.
HDMI
?? Essential for connecting the computer to a living room TV or a monitor. There are a few good ideas on how to use it as a home media server, which I will discuss later in the next posts.

Thunderbolt 1
?? This is the fastest port of the entire Mac Mini, ideally 10Gbps. It is the first version of Thunderbolt and it's the updated future-proof version of the FireWire standard.
?? Este es el puerto más rápido de toda la Mac Mini, idealmente 10Gbps. Es la primera versión de Thunderbolt y es la versión actualizada a prueba de obsolescencia del estándar FireWire.
USB 2.0
?? This may be the most versatile port of all because you will be able to connect a plethora of devices like:
- Printers.
- External hard drives.
- Electronics.
- Optic drives.
- Peripherals.
- Etc…
?? Este es seguramente el puerto más versátil de todos porque te permite conectar todo un abanico de dispositivos como:
- Impresoras.
- Discos duros externos.
- Electrónicos.
- Lectores ópticos.
- Periféricos.
- Etc.
SDXC
?? Do you have a DSLR camera or a Raspberry Pi? If your everyday use computer doesn't have this port, use the Mac Mini to help access your files. I will write a tutorial about this in another post.
?? ¿Tienes una cámara DSLR o un Raspberry Pi? Si tu computadora habitual no tiene este puerto, use la Mac Mini para ayudarte a acceder tus archivos. Escribiré un tutorial sobre esto en otra entrada.
Audio In/Out 3.5mm
?? I highly recommend using the Mac Mini as a macOS Server, but also as a home media server or as music playback device. It will work with 2.0 or 2.1 speakers (bass is important!).
?? Recomiendo con énfasis usar la Mac Mini como un servidor macOS, pero también como un servidor mediático o un dispositivo de reproducción de música. Funcionará con parlantes 2.0 y 2.1 (¡el bajo es importante!).
